LICHTSICHT >

Gudrun Barenbrock is a master of transforming formal data into digital images. The expansive format of the graduation wall suits the dynamism of her compositions. Everything revolves around the liquid element: water gnaws away at the salt domes under the earth, water washes the brine upwards, water trickles as fine threads over the thorny undergrowth into the collecting basins and points back to the underground springs.

In Rothenfelde, the artist draws a sum of flowing, surging, billowing, gushing, dripping movements. Her projection runs over 4 x 16 metres in width and takes up the entire height of the graduation wall. The effect can be as powerful as it is subtle. Water can erupt in bursts or ripple in loosened waves, flare up like walls of flames or condense into colourful drops. The entire repertoire of digital transformations is utilised: currents expand, thin out linearly or flow together in spotted patterns. The undulating fluctuation shows that computers and natural lyrical moods are not mutually exclusive. Barenbrock remains, even with digital camera and computer, the actual painter in front of the graduation wall.

In 2007, the 1st Projection Biennale in Bad Rothenfelde was still an experiment. In the meantime, projections have enriched numerous light festivals across the board and on a large scale, but only Bad Rothenfelde remains focussed on projections and only on projections every two years. This is the only place where a young generation of powerful light equipment repeatedly presents its own worlds: Beamer worlds. Lichtsicht established the medium in its special place between slide, film, video and digital painting, incorporating the various projection bodies in the spa gardens and the graduation walls, which are more than a kilometre wide, as its centre.

The show presented overwhelmingly powerful images from the „salt“ environment: water, from a stream to a rivulet, an isolated droplet fighting against evaporation, tiny cellular animals magnified 12,000 times, insects flying and dust bodies passing through a laser beam, fractal memories of the biblical act of creation, coloured Morse code for communal data and also, in the salt fog chamber of the graduation house, freely floating dancers.
